Thought #1 - Schools Back in Session
Hello lovely humans!
I’ve finally got round to sending this newsletter out. Thanks for your patience.
September (since I wrote this, it has magically become October) is an interesting time of year - summer is officially over, schools are back and suddenly Christmas and the new year feel very close. It is also one of the time of year I actually enjoy writing goals (I find January ones are often made in the middle of a cold, dark winter following over-indulgence in the festive period, so are usually unhelpful and unrealistic).
One of my goals was to kickstart this newsletter - so a promising start.
A Quick Intro - Hi, I’m Laura
Laura - Taught by Humans’ Founder
For those of you who don’t know me, I’m Laura Gemmell. I am the founder and CEO (I joke this stands for Chief Everything Officer) at Taught by Humans.
At Taught by Humans, we’re on a mission to ensure everyone has the confidence and skills they need for the future of work. Starting with AI and data skills. Our approach focuses on building confidence through personalised, practical learning journeys - because we believe the having the confidence to use your skills and knowledge is the most important aspect of learning.
I’m a data / tech person by background (I have hopped between being a data analyst and a developer throughout my career). But no matter what role I had (imaging the future of payments at Worldpay, building a data tool at a startup, fighting fraud at Monzo), I always end up teaching people how to use tech and data to make their jobs easier.
So I’ve given into what feels like my calling, and Taught by Humans was born. When I’m not delivering workshops and talks on all things data and AI related, I have been building our learning platform DOT-ed which I’m pleased to say is ready to help upskill employees.
DOT-ed Update
DOT-ed tailors education to company requirements, and personalises to individual employee needs. We focus on taking learners from where they are to where they want to be in a way which works for them.
Fun side insider info - DOT-ed actually stands for Dynamic, Online, Tailored Education but is named mainly because love the visuals around connecting the dots in learning.
It has a chatbot Dotly which can recommend what to learn, and will also talk you through an assessment to help understand your confidence in the topic (but don’t worry you can guide yourself through our content and answer multi-choice questions, if AI learning companions aren’t your thing).
DOT-ed - Our Learning Platform
If you want to try out DOT-ed, you can sign up for free to start your AI and data confidence journey.
If you want to have a chat about getting your team using DOT-ed, you can complete this form or book a meeting with me.
AI Tip - What Do You Know?
We’re all about AI confidence, so I will share my latest AI user tips in these updates.
If you are a ChatGPT user, you might have noticed it has started saying “Memory updating”. Now asides from being a little bit creepy, this is quite a useful feature. It means that across all of the chats, ChatGPT will now remember what you tell it (this has not always been the case).
This feature called Memory - it can be turned on and off in the settings (under your name / face) in Personalization. In this section you can:
Toggle the memory option off
Completely clear the current memory
Read and delete different statements ChatGPT has saved on you
ChatGPT’s Memory of Our Conversations - Proof I chat to ChatGPT too much
Now I start my chats with
L: What do you know about X?
X could be Taught by Humans. It could be more specific - the grant for AI in education we were writing last week.
Doing this allows me to understand what ChatGPT already has in memory - and gives me an opportunity to update, correct or add to this knowledge.
In our next newsletter, we are going to explore designing Good Data Education. We’d love to hear from you and your team on what’s worked and what hasn’t, or anything you’re interested in trying out.
Until then, you can follow my other thoughts on LinkedIn, and keep up with all things Taught by Humans via our LinkedIn and website.
Thanks for letting me be part of your learning journey,
Laura - always learning
